Countywide Community Auto Program to Give Away Vehicle to a Family in Need on Dec. 24

Applications accepted now through December 14

The seventh annual Community Auto “Too Big for The Stocking” car giveaway has returned this holiday season with a chance for a low-income working family to win a 2008 Buick Lucerne with only 21,000 miles. Community Auto is a program of North Hills Community Outreach that serves low-income, working residents all over Allegheny County.

A winner will be presented with the vehicle on KDKA-TV’s Pittsburgh Today Live on Dec. 24.

Eligible winners are low-income individuals who are residents of Allegheny County and who are working a minimum of 25 hours/week or have a hire letter in hand, have dependent children in their household, and need a vehicle to get to work and perform basic, daily functions such as grocery shopping and getting children to school, daycare and medical appointments.

The giveaway package is valued at more than $14,000 and the vehicle comes with new inspection and emissions stickers, fresh detailing, oil change, a six-month warranty, one-year AAA-Plus membership, child car safety seats if needed, monthly gas cards and holiday presents for the children.

Applications from qualified families are due Dec. 14 by 4 p.m. and may be emailed, or hand-delivered or mailed to 11490 Perry Highway Wexford, PA 15090. Postmark of Dec. 14 is not acceptable. A selection panel will review applications and select a winner, who will be notified before December 24.

Applications and more specific guidelines are available at or by calling Community Auto at 724-443-8300.

North Hills Community Outreach’s Community Auto provides reliable, roadworthy cars to low-income working families, helping them attain financial and personal independence through vehicle ownership. The program accepts all vehicle donations and offers donors the chance to get a maximum tax deduction. This past year, 35 low-income workers purchased a car through the program and 132 vehicles were donated.
