If you want to get a shower remodel done, there is a world of possibilities open to you. Homeowners often want a more pleasant place to shower as well as upgraded materials that can add value to their homes. We all spend time in the shower every day, so it’s always better to be happy with that shower.

Shower Remodel Costs

If you are remodeling your shower, the gulf between the lower and higher price ranges is vast. A limited shower remodel costs as little as $200 or as high as $15,000. The difference in the prices depends on what you want to change, what the materials will be, how large the shower is and what you want installed. Upgrading the shower with higher-end materials can cost thousands, but making a few carefully chosen changes, such as new fixtures, can run in the hundreds.

The Costs Broken Down

You will likely need to have a contractor who will install the shower, and this is often done for $400 to $1,000. Then, you need a plumber to handle those issues, and you can expect to pay anywhere from $600 to $1,600 for each fixture. If you want an interior designer to help with the plans, you will typically pay anywhere from $50 to $200 an hour. The cost of the materials that you will use are added onto all of these costs, and these vary greatly with the quality of the materials. You will also likely pay for old materials to be taken away and for a building permit.

How Much Shower Can You Afford?

Different types of bathroom remodels come with different prices. If there is just one small thing you are changing, it may cost very little to make that change. Here’s what you can afford at different budget levels:

  • $20 to $1,000: On this budget you can change things like the door, the shower heads or a fan and install them yourself. There are pre-made shower kits that come in at less than $1,000 for both the kit and the installation.
  • $1,000 to $3,000: There are several things that you can do in this budget range, including upgrading the plumbing to installing a pre-made shower stall.
  • $3,000 to $6,000: At this price range you can do major redesigns of your shower. You can get a shower kit that’s higher end or get a walk-in shower that is tiled. Many people get multiple jets and shower heads at this price.
  • $6,000+: There are few things that you can’t do in a shower remodel at this price range. These can use an interior designer’s help, and you get fancy tile, update the plumbing and even install a steam shower with this budget.

The morning often starts with a hot shower, and with a shower remodel, you can enjoy it a lot more. Want to learn more about home improvement? Check out Angi, the newly-rebranded Angie’s List site, for more information on home remodeling and room additions.
