This is How You Arrange a Designer-approved Bedroom

When styling and arranging a bedroom, there are certain qualities that you have to have to achieve. A bedroom, no matter the theme is, has to be cozy and serene. It must also have a character since it’s the most personal space in your house.

In this piece, we’re going to reveal our step-by-step process of arranging a bedroom. Keep in mind that the look and feel of your room will vary greatly depending on your personality and preferences in colour palettes, bedroom furniture and accessories.

These steps are also not a one-size-fits-all strategy. So feel free to improvise along the way.

1. Keep only the necessary items

If you’re just redesigning or renovating a room, the first thing to do is to decide what you will keep and what will be thrown out, donated or sold. Obviously, you have to keep only what’s necessary. Squeezing in a lot of items in a room will only result in a messy arrangement.

You must also remember this if you’re designing a room from the ground up. If you want to fill your bedroom with brand new furniture and accessories, make sure that each item has a purpose.

Taking a somewhat minimalist approach will not only help you create space in your room, but it will also provide a sense of peace since you don’t have to worry about all the clutter.

2. Sketch it out

Even if you’re not gifted with artistic skills, you should not skip this step. Making an initial sketch of your bedroom and the placement of every piece of furniture, accessories, and fixtures will help you visualize everything.

This step will save you a ton of errors when you’re already in the arrangement part of the process. Doing a trial and error by lifting and moving heavy furniture here and there to see what will work is a laborious task. So draw it out instead.

Don’t be afraid to make different versions, too. This way you can assess which arrangement will work best.

3. Start arranging the bed

Since it’s the most important piece in your bedroom, hence the name, put it in the right place first.

Normally, you’d want to put it against the largest wall of your room. But it can vary depending on the size and orientation of the area. Just make sure to find the best spot that will make the most sense to your overall style.

4. Work on other items, from big to small

Now that you’ve found the perfect spot for your bed, you can now arrange every other piece of furniture that you need. Remember to go big at first then work on the smallest items at the last part.

Normally, closets or cabinets come next to the bed, followed by desks, bedsides, chairs and shelves. Lastly, arrange smaller accessories like mirrors, lamps, cushions, etc.

5. Then there’s the rug

A rug may not be an item of furniture but it’s an important accessory. Like what The Dude from The Big Lebowski movie once quipped, “that rug really tied the room together!” So when choosing a rug for your hibernating place, make sure that it will complement everything in your room.

Aside from its impeccable design, its placement is also important. It could be placed next to the bed or in the centre of the open space of the room. Anywhere as long as it will tie the room together.

6. Don’t be afraid to try stuff

Last but not least, just try stuff. There’s no harm in trying, right?  If you’re thinking of something that you feel will work, or even if you’re not sure that it will, go for it. After all, it’s your room and the final say is yours.
