Many veterans have come a long way and deserve our support every day of the year. So, look in your neighborhood to see if there are any military-owned businesses nearby that you can visit and shop at during the week.
Donate a Military-Supported Charity
When veterans come home, they might find it difficult to find their place, and some of them may not even have a place to call home. As veterans enter homeless shelters, they often look for ways to get back on their feet.
Supporters such as yourself can help by donating old items to a veteran’s charity that will distribute second-hand items to veterans in need. This is especially to veterans who are in the process of buying a home. The best thing a veteran can receive aside from a “thank you” is gently-used starter furniture.
Adorn Your Outfit With a Red Poppy
Veteran organizations do a sweet thing to show their support for troops. Each year, they have local legions create paper poppy flowers that they then give out at different events for a small charge.
Once everything’s sold, all the money raised goes right back into the veteran’s organization to support those in the hospital and those who have disabilities. A red poppy makes an excellent pairing for every outfit and can be worn throughout the year.
Fly a Flag
A simple way to honor a veteran throughout the year is by hanging a flag outside your home or office building. A flag is a remarkable reminder of your appreciation for your neighbors who are war veterans.
As you fly your flag, ensure that the pole is upright and that you hang the banner on the right side of the bar. This helps the banner fly outward toward the left of the observer’s sightline.
Listen To Their Stories
Veterans have many memories of what they’ve gone through during their time in the service, often to the point that they could pen a novel. Depending on the circumstances, many veterans may be open to sharing, so sit down and listen to what they have to say if you ever get the chance.
