Run for the Hills! NHCO seeks 5K runners, relay teams, and marathoners

North Hills Community Outreach invites runners of all abilities to run one of the races of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon May 5 and 6. Registration is FREE when you run for NHCO and help local families in need.  Runners can form a relay team or choose the 5K, half marathon or full marathon. Tickets are on sale now for NHCO’s Neighborhood Block Party

North Hills Community Outreach’s Neighborhood Block Party is 5:30-8:30 pm, Thursday, April 26 in The Chadwick in McCandless (Wexford). The whole family is welcome at this all-ages event, which includes multiple food stations, live music by members of Under the Covers and Juniper Six, princess and superhero visits, games, kids’ activities, a silent auction and much more. Tickets are all-inclusive. Early bird tickets through March 31 are $28 for adults, $12 for children. Tickets April 1 through 21 are $30 and $13.  Proceeds support NHCO’s many programs that help local families in need. NHCO collecting Spring Dinner items

North Hills Community Outreach is collecting items through March 9 to provide a complete Spring Dinner for each family that uses our food pantry. This collection replaces the former Spring Basket collection.  Items needed include jar of applesauce, can of pineapple or fruit cocktail, box of mashed or scalloped potatoes, package of dinner rolls or biscuit mix, and butter or margarine. (Families will also receive vegetables and a gift card to purchase a ham or other item to round out the meal.) Financial donations to NHCO are also appreciated. Please donate Monday through Friday, 9am-4pm at NHCO Allison Park, 1975 Ferguson Road, Hampton, or NHCO North Boroughs, AGH-Suburban Campus, 100 S. Jackson Avenue, Bellevue, or call 412-487-6316 option 1 to make other arrangements.

Donate your vehicle to NHCO’s Transportation Assistance program

Your unwanted car, van, truck, boat, RV or motorcycle can help several low-income individuals or families. Vehicles donated to North Hills Community Outreach’s Transportation Assistance program are sold at auction and 100 percent of the funds NHCO receives help local people in need overcome transportation challenges. Your donated car could change lives. FREE pickup or towing and hassle-free donation process. Please visit nhco.org or call 412-408-3830 x 3225.

NHCO offering FREE Tax Preparation

North Hills Community Outreach is once again offering FREE tax preparation for low-income individuals through the United Way Free Tax Prep program. Appointments are required and must be made by calling

United Way’s helpline, 2-1-1.

Income eligibility requirements:

For households with ONE PERSON, annual income must be $25,000 or less. For households with MORE THAN ONE PERSON, annual income must be $45,000 or less.

NHCO’s Bellevue/North Boroughs site will be open for tax prep appointments Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30 to 7:30pm, beginning January 22.

NHCO’s Millvale site will be open for tax prep appointments Saturdays, 9:00am to noon, beginning January 20. 

Employment help is available at NHCO

North Hills Community Outreach offers multiple programs aimed at helping people attain self-sufficiency, including employment help.  Those seeking help with career counseling, updating a resume, job search techniques and more can contact NHCO Resource Coordinator Jackie Boggs at jmboggs@nhco.org or 412-408-3830 x 3217.

Walk for NHCO in the Highmark Walk

Join North Hills Community Outreach in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community May 12! When you register to walk, and /or fundraise for NHCO,100% of the proceeds support NHCO’s programs to help local families in need. Registration is now open at http://hcf.convio.net/nhco. NHCO urgently needs volunteers in the upper Route 28 corridor

North Hills Community Outreach has an urgent need for volunteers interested in helping seniors in the route 28 corridor. Specifically, volunteer drivers and on-board dispatchers are needed for the Free Rides for Seniors shuttles, which transport seniors in the Route 28 communities to UPMC medical appointments and shopping during weekdays. No special license is needed and training is provided. Shifts are short. Please contact Kerry atkkmulhern@nhco.org or 412-449-0151 for more information.

Ask the Attorney sessions for low-income families

Free legal consultation for issues such as divorce, bankruptcy, credit issues, family matters, rent disputes and more is available for families in need at North Hills Community Outreach locations the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm except December. The next ATA sessions are: March 21 in NHCO Millvale and April 18 in NHCO Allison Park. Attendees MUST preregister for these sessions by contacting Jackie at jmboggs@nhco.org or 412-408-3830 x 3217.

NHCO Speakers Available

North Hills Community Outreach’s staff or volunteer speakers will speak to your congregation, business, civic group or school at no charge about NHCO’s programs and services and volunteer opportunities.
